The following organisations may be able to help you with product assurance for your product or system, provide advice and help with product technical statements.
Although there is no single organisation to represent people with product compliance expertise, the following contacts may be useful to you.
We have provided the names of organisations in good faith and as a resource for product manufacturers and suppliers. However, their listing here does not represent any form of endorsement by us.
Research organisations
Building Research Association of New Zealand (BRANZ) is an independent and impartial research, testing, consulting and information company providing services and resources for the building system. BRANZ is funded in part by the Building Research Levy generated from New Zealand’s building and construction industry.
Scion is a Crown research institute that specialises in research, science and technology development for the forestry, wood product, wood-derived materials, and other biomaterial sectors.
Product support and advice
Some professional engineers provide product support:
- Engineering New Zealand – holds the register of chartered professional engineers. It also gives general advice regarding the engagement of engineers.
- The Association of Consulting Engineers – represents engineering consultancy companies.
Some architects also provide support:
- New Zealand Institute of Architects – keeps a list of all members
- New Zealand Registered Architects Board – maintains a public register of registered architects, who are also deemed to be licensed building practitioners.
Other groups that may be able to help:
- Licensed Building Practitioners – particularly those in the design classes
- The New Zealand Institute of Building Surveyors
